Other Info | William Dowse from Wantage, joined the 3rd Battalion in 1904. Although the attestation form says that he was 14 years 0 months, it was actually a month before his birthday. He served with the Depot, 1st, 5th, 3rd and 6th Battalions prior to WW1. He was killed on 1st June 1916 at Vimy Ridge and is buried in Coivres Cemetery. Died age 26. Son of Henry Nelson Dowse and Phoebe Caroline Dowse, of Wantage, Berks. Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Mont-St. Eloi, Pas de Calais, France - grave Ref: III. A. 3. His brother (Albert Dowse - 10642 ) also served with the Worcestershire Regiment. He made it home, but died of influenza in 1918. |
