Other InfoEntered the theatre of war in the Balkans on the 25th April 1915 serving with the 4th Battalion. He later also served with the 4th Battalion in France where he was awarded the Military Medal (London Gazette date 14th January 1918). He was badly wounded whilst retrieving ammunition under enemy fire and was though to be dead. However, an Australian Medical officer (Lieut. Bert Smith) found him alive and saved his life.
