Other InfoSergeant Percy William Hemming (21396) of the 10th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment died on the 3rd July 1916, aged 31. He enlisted at Worcester in February 1915 and promoted to Sergeant in December 1915. Went to France in July 1915. Killed at La Boisselle. A member of the Bromsgrove Oddfellows Association, Queens Own Royal Lodge, and is commemorated on their War Memorial. He is also commemorated on the memorial plaque in Crowle Church of England School and the War Memorial in Crowle Churchyard. The Bromsgrove Droitwich and Redditch Messenger 30th September 1916; "Official notice has now been received by his wife, that Sergeant Percy W. Hemming of the Worcestershire Regiment, only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hemming of Victoria Road, Bromsgrove, has been missing since July 3rd, on which date he was wounded at La Boisselle. Sergeant Hemming is a Bromsgrove School old boy." Born in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire on 17th December 1884. Son of John William (solicitor’s clerk who became an accountant) and Elizabeth Hemming (nee Duffill). Percy William Hemming was educated at Bromsgrove School from 1897 to 1904. Member of the first teams at Rugby and Cricket and also a School Monitor. He was Headmaster of Crowle School. Married Bessie Marion Shirley in 1910. They had two children; Gwendoline Betty Hemming (b. 1912), Donald Hemming (b. 1914). After his death Bessie remarried Leonard George Lewis Crocker and they had two children.
