Other InfoOriginally landed in France with the 2nd Battalion and fought with then during the battle at Gheluvelt. He later was posted to the 1st Battalion. Clasp to 1914 Star shows name as Wearings. Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) London Gazette date 3rd June 1919. His citation reads as follows: Corporal (Acting Sergeant) with the 1st Battalion Worcestershire Regiment: "During all the operations in which the battalion took part, from 25th July at Vimy, to 8th October 1918, on the Haute Deule Canal, he showed conspicuous gallantry and utter disregard of danger. His splendid example to the men in his platoon enabled them to carry out great success many minor but important operations." The Medal Roll shows his final rank as Private.
