Other InfoDied age 21. Second son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Stafford Charles, of Woodside House, Chenies, Bucks. ROISEL COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, Somme, France - grave Ref: II. L. 3. Served in Gallipoli and France and lost his life fighting over enemy lines near Peronne on the 30th July 1916. He was educated at Stanmore Park (the Nev. Vernon Royle), where he took a Mathematical Scholarship for Harrow. At Harrow he became a member of the O.T.C. and the Philatelic Club, and head of his house. He left there in July 1914, and in the following month received a commission in the Worcestershire Regiment. In May, 1915, he was sent to Gallipoli and was present at the Third Battle of Krithia of 4th-9th June 1915. He was subsequently invalided home, and was gazetted Captain on 20th November 1915. Early in 1916 he joined the Royal Flying Corps and took his pilot's certificate in April of that year. He left for active service on the 5th July 1916, and lost his life in a combat in the air over the German lines near Peronne on the 30th July 1916 (Having been reported missing the same date but later change to killed in action).
