| Other Info | Commanded the 2/8th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment from August 1918 to April 1919. Delmé William Campbell Davies-Evans was born at Llanwenog, Cardiganshire, Wales on the 25th April 1873. The son of Herbert Davies-Evans and Mary Eleanor Geraldine Lilla Jones. Delmé William Campbell Davies-Evans was commissioned in to the 1st (Pembrokeshire) Volunteer Battalion, of the Welsh Regiment on the 14th November 1900 with the rank of Second Lieutenant. On the 29th May 1901 he was Second Lieutenant in the Territorial Force of the Pembroke Imperial Yeomanry. On the 29th April 1903 he married Gwladys Maud Kathleen Morris at Carmarthen. He was promoted to rank of Major on the 1st April 1910. Before the First World War he was a Banker and Farmer living at Penylan Golden Grove Carmarthenshire with his wife and children (3 daughter and 1 son). During WW1 he commanded the 5th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment as Acting Lieut.-Col. from 28th January 1917 to 11th February 1917 and also from 21st May 1918 to 1st August 1918. He commanded the 2/8th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment from 25th August 1918 to 17th April 1919 with the rank of Acting Lieut.-Col. He left the Battalion and actually returned to the U.K. on the 14th April 1919. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) for his fine leadership (London Gazette 3rd June 1919) at Verchain during the Battle of the Selle in October 1918. On the 19th August 1919 he was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.). Promoted to substantive rank of Lieut.-Colonel on the 3rd July 1920 he was given command of the 4th Battalion Welch Regiment. He stood as the Conservative Candidate in the 1931 Elections (gaining 9434 votes) in Carmarthen but lost. Colonel Delmé William Campbell Davies-Evans died at Carmarthen in 1953, age 80. His wife Gwladys Maud Kathleen died in 1968 (age 87) also at Carmarthen. |
