Other Info | Thomas Featherstone entered the Great War as a Private in the Gloucestershire Regiment. He later received a commission in the 11th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment. Serving in Salonika, the regimental history records, ‘Much good work was done by the Battalion Intelligence Officer. A daring reconnaissance of the enemy position, going out alone by night and remaining all the next day under cover close to the enemy line, thereby gaining most valuable information. 2/Lieut. T. Featherstone was awarded the M.C. He was mentioned in despatches for the action in which he was killed at Jumeaux Ravine, 25th April 1917. He was recommended for a higher award but the M.I.D. was the only option available that could be awarded posthumously. His medals were sold at auction by Dix Noonan Webb on the 11th December 2013 for £2300. |
