Other Info | He was educated at Woodrough’s School in Moseley from 1901 to 1905, and then at Denstone College from 1906 to 1909, he left Denstone Colleger in December 1909, and went on to become an Articled Clerk in his father’s office in Birmingham with the object of qualifying as a solicitor. He joined the Worcester Territorials and entered on a military career, being commissioned in 1910 as 2nd Lieutenant in the 7th Battalion. He was promoted to Lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment on 20th January 1912. After the declaration of war in 1914 he joined the 7th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment on coastal protection duty. They moved to the Western Front in April 1915.
Near Armentieres the battalion started training in trench warfare . He was soon promoted to Captain and in May 1915 the Battalion moved to Ploegsteert and on the 20th July 1915 traveled by rail to the front-line in the Somme sector. When the Battalion arrived the weather was cold and wet and they were obliged to bivouac in the Bois de Warnimont. There were several casualties from exposure. After some minor action Captain Arthur Gilbert Rollason taken to a Field Ambulance Station where he died due to complications caused by appendicitis on the 30th July 1915 (age 23).
He was the only son of Arthur Adolphus and Mary Maria Rollason, of Dudley, Worcestershire.
He is buried at Louvencourt Military Cemetery, France, Plot 1. Row B. Grave 22.
