Merville Communal Cemetery, Nord, France - grave Ref:. I.K.1. Merville Hospital, France (hospital used as No. 6 Casualty Clearing Station, B.E.F.). Died of wounds sustained in action. Ronald-Mortimer Slater was educated at Windlesham House, Brighton, Wellington College (The Hill) from 1905 to 1909, and then proceeding to Royal Military College, Sandhurst, was gazetted in March 1911, to the 1st Battalion Worcestershire Regiment. Promoted to Lieutenant on the 3rd September 1914. The following account of the circumstances under which he was wounded reads; "One of his men was lying seriously wounded. Slater went out and brought him in, and was hit on the top of the head by a bullet. For the moment he was dazed, but for the rest of the day he was cheery and bright. When taken to the hosptial at night his case was declared hopeless. He was well spoken of in the regiment as a promising polo player."
