Other Info | Died age 20. Son of Edith F. Wallace (formerly Smythe), of Constantinople, and the late Fleming H. Smythe. Vendresse British Cemetery, Aisne, France - grave Ref: III. C. 3. REGIMENTAL HISTORY SHOWS: "On the following morning (18th September 1914) the Battalion was heavily bombarded. In the three days of occupation shelter-places had been constructed in the trenches—the first 'dugouts' — and a direct hit on one of those flimsy dugouts killed and temporarily buried two officers — Captain M. R. Carr and Lieut. F. F. Smythe." |
